In an effort to compel Democrats to come to a negotiation with Republicans on a suitable replacement for the Affordable Care Act, President Trump has stated that he may abstain payments to insurers. Doing so may greatly affect the individual health insurance market.

A multitude of groups, including the American Health Insurance Plans, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Benefits Council, cosigned a letter to Trump with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Within the letter, these groups urged Trump to keep those payments to health insurers.

The letter also showed the rising concerns within the healthcare landscape since the proposed repeal and replace of the Affordable Care Act from the Trump Administration and Congress.

Trump has until May to decide on the fate of the Affordable Care Act. Republicans are currently split on their decision on the health care provision.

For health insurers, they have the next two months to make a decision on offering individual health care market plans in 2018. If those funds are cut by Trump, these insurers would be responsible for these costs.
