After being pulled by House Speaker Paul Ryan, the American Health Care Act, which is a proposed healthcare bill that is intended to replace the Affordable Care Act, is getting a second chance and another vote.
The bill with new amendments is expected to be released this weekend and a vote is expected to take place next week.
Republican Representatives Tom MacArthur and Mark Meadows drew out an amendment to the American Health Care Act which gives flexibility to states and intends to protect the consumers in terms of obtaining and retaining health insurance coverage.
The amendments to the American Health Care Act are outlined below:
- Essential health benefits would be reinstated. States can apply for a waiver for these health benefits
- Waivers can also be accepted for community rating rules
- Health status will be allowed as an exception in states with a high-risk pool
- Denial of coverage due to preexisting medical conditions are prohibited
- Dependents are allowed to stay on their parent’s health insurance plan until the reach the age of 26 years old.
