According to an action by the Obama administration, consumers who have Medicaid and are receiving subsidies from the government to assist in paying for private health insurance will lose their dual coverage.
This action is being made as an effort to prevent the federal government from paying double for a person’s health care coverage, as that person will receive coverage from Medicaid and a subsidized insurance plan that was purchased through the health exchange under the Affordable Care Act.
Consumers who are eligible for both Medicaid and federal subsidies may switch their coverage from one to the other based on changes, such as family size or household income.
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the duplicate coverage has cost an estimated $100 billion so far this year.
