In a recent count for the latest enrollment stats for the Affordable Care Act, more than 12.2 million Americans signed up for health insurance coverage. Although this number seems high,the enrollment amount is almost 4% lower than the enrollment stats in 2016.
Of the 12.2 million sign ups, 9.2 million had signed up in 39 states using the HealthCare.gov website. This website is used to sign up for subsidized private health insurance, ideal for those who are not provided health insurance coverage through their employer. The remaining 3 million signs ups came from the rest of the 11 states and Washington D.C.
Since the Affordable Care Act’s enactment in 2010, 20 million Americans were provided health insurance coverage, with the uninsured rate dropping to a historic low of 9%.
Despite the numbers, Republican criticize the Affordable Care Act and state that the enrollment numbers are trending downward. Suprisingly, 64% of those enrolled under the Affordable Care Act come from states that Trump had won over in the election.
