On Tuesday, The Senate voted 98-2 to permanently repeal Medicare’s sustainable growth-rate formula (SGR), a day before the CMS will begin to process claims at a reduced rate. President Obama has announced that he intends to sign the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (H.R. 2), which will set up a two-track payment system for doctors to urge them to move their patients into a risk-based payment model.
H.R. 2 Details:
- Prevents the 21.2% cut in payments to doctors
- Gives qualifying doctors higher reimbursement rates starting in 2019
- Extends the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) by 2 years
- Designates $7.2 billion in additional funding for community health centers
“It represents a real step forward for bipartisan healthcare policy,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). “It’s a monumental achievement.”
